DIIA – what is it?

Diia.pl is an electronic document issued to Ukrainian citizens who arrived in Poland after 24 February 2022. It is classified as a residence permit. It came into force on 23 July 2022.

It allows holders to cross Polish borders and move freely within the Schengen Area. What conditions must be met to obtain a DIIA?

Diia.pl can effectively replace a Ukrainian citizen’s identity card. It contains key details such as: full name, photograph and PESEL number.

It’s a simple way to confirm your identity and the legality of your stay in Poland in any situation.  It will make it much easier for people from Ukraine to sort out everyday matters, for example at a GP’s surgery or at the jobcentre. Who can use the Diia.pl document?

Anyone applying for the digital document must:

• be a citizen of Ukraine;
• be aged 18 or over;
• have crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border after 24 February 2022;
• have a PESEL number;
• set up and use a trusted profile.

How do I activate the app? Step-by-step guide

• The first step is to obtain a trusted profile. You can do this at any local authority office when applying for a PESEL number.
• The second step is to request activation of your Trusted Profile at the local authority.
• The third step is to install and launch the mObywatel app. You must also read the terms and conditions and privacy policy displayed on the screen.
• The fourth step is to activate the app. You must enter the same username and password as those assigned to your trusted profile.

Is Diia.pl a paid service?

The app is free and easy to use. It is available for download from the official App Store and Google Play. You will need a smartphone running the following operating system:

• Android 6.0 or later;
• iOS 13.0 or later.
