7,000 zł gross – what is the net amount?

30/06/2025

The gross amount of 7,000 zł serves as an important benchmark for many employees and freelancers considering various forms of employment in Poland. Understanding how net pay is calculated from this amount requires taking into account a number of factors, including compulsory social security and health insurance contributions, as well as income tax deductions. Differences in taxation and social security contributions depend primarily on the type of contract, which in turn affects the final ‘take-home’ pay. In this article, I provide a comprehensive analysis based on the current regulations in force in 2024, with particular attention to the nuances concerning employment contracts, contracts for specific tasks, contracts for specific work and B2B arrangements.

Definition of gross and net pay and their practical significance

Gross pay is the amount specified in the contract, before any contributions or taxes are deducted. It forms the basis for calculating social security contributions (pension, disability and sickness insurance), health insurance contributions and income tax deductions. Net pay, on the other hand, is the amount that an employee actually receives into their bank account after all deductions have been made. In practice, it is the net pay that determines the purchasing power of one’s income and is crucial for personal budget planning.

The amount of deductions varies depending on the form of employment, the employee’s age, the place of work and applicable tax reliefs, such as the tax-free allowance or the youth tax relief (zero PIT up to the age of 26).

Analysis of net pay from a gross salary of 7,000 zł under an employment contract

An employment contract remains the most commonly chosen form of employment, guaranteeing job stability and a wide range of social security benefits. With a gross salary of 7,000 zł, social security contributions total approximately 959.70 zł, including:

  • pension insurance – 9.76% (approximately 683.20 zł),
  • disability insurance – 1.50% (approximately 105.00 zł),
  • sickness insurance – 2.45 per cent (approximately 171.30 zł).

The basis for calculating the health insurance contribution is the gross amount less social security contributions (7,000 PLN – 959.70 PLN = 6,040.30 PLN). The health insurance contribution amounts to 9 per cent of this base, i.e. approximately 543.63 zł. It is important to note that only 7.75 per cent of this contribution is tax-deductible, which means that the actual burden on the employee is higher.

Income tax is calculated on the basis reduced by social security contributions and tax-deductible expenses (typically 250 or 300 zł, depending on place of residence). Assuming tax-deductible expenses of 250 PLN and a monthly tax-free allowance of 300 PLN, the PIT advance payment amounts to approximately 395 PLN.

As a result, the net salary under an employment contract with a gross salary of 7,000 zł is approximately 5,102 zł. It should be noted that participation in Employee Capital Plans (PPK) may reduce this net amount by a further 2 per cent of gross pay (approximately 140 zł).

Employer’s costs under an employment contract

The employer’s costs are higher than the gross amount paid to the employee, as they include additional social security contributions and contributions to the Labour Fund. For a gross salary of 7,000 zł, the employer’s cost is approximately 8,500–8,700 zł, depending on the accident insurance contribution rate and any contributions to the PPK.

Net pay from a gross salary of 7,000 PLN under a contract of mandate and a contract for specific work

A contract of mandate follows a different deduction scheme to an employment contract. Social security contributions are compulsory, but the contractor may opt out of voluntary sickness insurance. With a gross salary of 7,000 PLN, the net pay is approximately 5,217 PLN, which results from lower social security contributions and a reduced basis for calculating the health insurance contribution. Income tax is calculated after taking into account 20 per cent of tax-deductible expenses.

A contract for specific work is advantageous from a tax perspective, as it is not subject to compulsory social security contributions (except where it is concluded with one’s own employer). After taking into account the 20 per cent tax-deductible expenses and the income tax advance, the net pay from a gross amount of 7,000 PLN under a contract for specific work will amount to approximately 6,628 PLN.

Comparison of forms of employment in terms of net pay

  • Employment contract: approximately 5,102 zł net.
  • Contract of mandate: approximately 5,217 zł net.
  • Contract for specific work: approximately 6,628 zł net.

These differences stem from the varying structure of contributions and taxes, as well as the voluntary nature of certain insurance schemes under civil law contracts. The choice of employment form should take into account not only the level of net pay, but also issues such as social security, annual leave, sick leave and job security.

Net pay for the self-employed (B2B) – estimated calculations based on 7,000 PLN

Self-employment, popular amongst freelancers and specialists, offers flexibility and the opportunity for tax optimisation. In the case of an invoice for 7,000 PLN net (excluding VAT), the self-employed person must add VAT (23 per cent), which, however, is usually deductible and does not represent the final cost.

Income tax and social security contributions depend on the chosen tax regime and are calculated on the basis of revenue less tax-deductible expenses. For example, with a flat-rate tax (19 per cent) and full social security contributions, the entrepreneur will earn a net amount of approximately 4,200–4,500 zł, whereas with preferential contributions (the ‘small ZUS’ scheme) and a flat-rate scheme, the net amount may be higher, reaching as much as 6,200 PLN.

An alternative to traditional B2B business is a business incubator such as ‘Firma dla Każdego’, which allows for tax settlements without the need to run a business. With a gross income of 7,000 zł, after deducting 6% tax and the membership fee (approx. 400 zł), the net pay amounts to around 6,281 zł, which is an attractive option for freelancers seeking simplicity and cost optimisation.

The significance of tax reliefs and tax-deductible expenses in calculations

A key factor affecting the net salary is the tax-free allowance, which, from 2022, amounts to up to 30,000 zł per year. This allowance reduces the tax base and applies when tax is calculated using the tax scale (12%/32%).

Tax-deductible expenses, normally PLN 250 per month and increased to PLN 300 if an employee commutes to work from another town, reduce the tax base and thus the amount of income tax payable.

For those aged 26 and under, the ‘zero PIT’ relief applies, which exempts income of up to 85,528 PLN per year from income tax, significantly increasing their net pay.

Summary and recommendations for employees and freelancers

The net pay from a gross amount of 7,000 PLN depends heavily on the form of employment and individual tax and social security circumstances. An employment contract guarantees stability and full social security cover, but offers a lower net pay compared to civil law contracts or B2B agreements. A contract for specific work provides the highest net pay, but limits insurance cover.

For freelancers and sole traders, it is crucial to consider all costs, including social security contributions and income tax, in the context of possible tax reliefs and taxation schemes. Platforms such as ‘Firma dla każdego’ offer an interesting alternative, allowing for simplified paperwork whilst maintaining an attractive net pay.

In practice, it is recommended to use up-to-date salary calculators that take into account variable parameters such as age, place of work, participation in the Employee Pension Scheme (PPK), or tax reliefs. Only precise calculations tailored to an individual’s specific circumstances will enable an informed choice of the most advantageous form of employment and effective financial planning.

Frequently asked questions

What is the net pay for a gross salary of 7,000 zł under an employment contract?

With a gross salary of 7,000 zł under an employment contract, the net pay is approximately 5,100–5,240 zł. This amount is reduced by compulsory social security contributions (pension, disability, sickness and health insurance) and an advance payment of income tax. The final net amount depends on individual tax allowances and tax-deductible expenses.

How does the net amount differ between a gross salary of 7,000 PLN under an employment contract and a B2B contract?

Under an employment contract, the net amount is approximately 5,100–5,240 PLN, whereas for a gross amount of 7,000 PLN under a B2B contract, the net amount is lower and ranges from 3,700 to 4,500 PLN, depending on the form of taxation and the level of social security contributions. A B2B contract allows you to deduct tax-deductible expenses and opt for a flat-rate tax (19%), which can increase your net pay, but requires you to pay social security contributions and taxes yourself.

What accounts for the differences in net pay between an employment contract, a contract for services and a contract for specific work?

The differences stem from the type of social security contributions and taxes. An employment contract requires the employee to pay all social security and health insurance contributions, as well as personal income tax (PIT), which reduces the net pay. A contract for services allows for the voluntary payment of sickness insurance contributions and results in a slightly higher net pay. A contract for specific work does not require social security contributions, and only income tax is deducted, resulting in the highest net pay of these forms of employment.

What contributions and taxes are deducted from a gross salary of 7,000 zł?

The following are deducted from a gross salary of 7,000 zł: pension contribution (approx. 9.76%), disability pension contribution (approx. 1.5%), sickness benefit contribution (approx. 2.45%), health insurance contribution (9% of the assessment base after deduction of social security contributions) and an advance payment of income tax (12% up to 120,000 zł per year, with the option to deduct part of the health insurance contribution and claim a tax allowance). In total, these deductions reduce the net amount to around PLN 5,100–5,240.

Does claiming the youth tax relief affect the net amount on a gross salary of 7,000 zł?

Yes, people aged 26 or under can benefit from the so-called ‘youth tax relief’, which exempts them from personal income tax (PIT) up to PLN 85,528 per year. In practice, this means that with a gross salary of 7,000 PLN, the net pay will be higher because no income tax is deducted, which increases the amount paid ‘after tax’.

What are the employer’s costs for a gross salary of 7,000 PLN?

For a gross salary of 7,000 zł, the employer’s cost amounts to approximately 8,400–8,500 zł. This comprises social security contributions and contributions to the Labour Fund, which the employer pays in addition to the gross amount. These costs include, amongst other things, contributions towards pensions, disability benefits, accident insurance, the Labour Fund and the Guaranteed Employee Benefits Fund.

Can using the ‘Firma dla każdego’ platform increase your net pay on a gross salary of 7,000 PLN?

Yes, ‘Firma dla każdego’ offers a business model without the need to set up a company, where the entrepreneur pays 6 per cent income tax and does not pay social security contributions.
